Militaria Medals; French General Military Service - France, III Republic. The National Order of the Legion of Honour (Knight with Diamonds) to M. Clemençon (Louis Auguste Celment) Squadron Captain 6th Regiment De Hussards (includes miniature dress issue). Instituted in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte. This is the highest French Order of Merit and is awarded for eminent service to the nation, civilian or military, 2nd Order of the Legion of Honour (Knights) (light enamel damage) & An Order Of The Legion Of Honour, V Class Knight. Lot of 3 different Orders all housed in original vintage cases. Comes with 2 seperate documents as PROOF of attribution to Louis Auguste Clement dating 1864. A superb set of Orders seldom offered with paper work.

Comes with a Birks Gold cigarette case stamped (9) ,375 gold,m 169.9 grms. Gold content is $7500+ based on spot as of Oct.28th. With TWMacD on the outside and inscribed on the inside ''Thain from Uor ab'' dated July 25th 1929. Records show this as belongig to Captain Thain Wendall MacDowell VC, DSO in the Great War. Awarded his Victoria Cross for valour in the presence of the enemy at Vimy Ridge. It was during this battle that Captain MacDowell would prove himself to be among the ultimate badasses of the Great War. Canadian Military honours from members who received the Victoria Cross are seldom seen and or offered outside museums. View carefully, The DSO ribbon and medal are detached. See Pictures.
