BL-40A2, Wood 23 - Issue 1, Die state A, this token represents one of the rare example of the very first die state of the first issue of BL-40. Prior to cataloguing the varieties in 1989, this die state was unknown and only suspected to exist. No die cup in the shape of a triangle is present behind the head on the obverse. Very few specimens are currently known. The last issue sold publicly was the Partrick example, which fetched $1360, including the premium. The currently offered specimen has the same rotation as the one from Partrick, it is lightly scratched and weighs 4.66g.

Originally listed and rated as Rarity of 4. In comparison, Side Views Tokens are all Rarity 4 and Rarity 4 1/2. Non Countermarked issues are thought to be scarcer. This is a great opportunity for collectors of Breton tokens to acquire a scarce example.
